Questions about Emma
Who is Emma?
Emma is your AI English speaking tutor inside Lang Shadow. You talk with her by voice, every day, like texting a patient friend — and she gently scores your pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and coherence as you chat. She remembers your life and brings it back when it helps.
How is Emma different from ChatGPT?
Emma is purpose-built for learning to speak English. You practise four ways — Talk about anything, chase Goals through bite-size speaking games, Read passages aloud, and Role Play real conversations before they happen. She finds your CEFR level, remembers you between sessions, and turns your mistakes into focused practice — rather than just answering questions.
Does Emma really remember me?
Yes. Emma keeps what you tell her — your dog, the trip next month, the interview you're nervous about — along with your own shared little moments, and brings them back when they help. She isn't a fresh chatbot every time: the more you talk, the more she adapts to you and picks topics you'll actually enjoy.
How much time does it take?
As little as a few honest minutes a day. There are no lessons to schedule, no textbooks and no homework — you talk to Emma whenever you can grab a moment, and it adds up. It's built to fit into a busy life, not to add another thing to your to-do list.
Is Lang Shadow really free to start?
Yes — you can start completely free, with daily limits. Plus raises those limits — much more daily talk time with Emma and premium AI voices — from $4/month. Cancel anytime.
How does Emma score my speaking?
Emma listens while you just chat — no tests, no red pen. After the conversation she shows what landed and what to tweak across four skills: pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and coherence, with your CEFR level (A1–C2) and word-by-word pronunciation feedback.
What mother tongues are supported?
97+ mother tongues. Emma can switch to your native language when you're stuck, and Lang Shadow translates and explains everything in your language. Pick yours during onboarding.
What else can I do in Lang Shadow besides talking to Emma?
Emma is your speaking partner; when you'd rather listen, watch, or review, the app has the rest: short-form video shadowing, long-form English podcasts, real-time word-synced transcripts with tap-to-translate, per-word and per-sentence pronunciation scoring, and a vocabulary and chunks library that saves words from any content.
How is my voice data handled?
Voice samples are processed for pronunciation scoring and discarded by default. We never sell or share your data. You can delete your account and all data anytime in Settings.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — cancel through the App Store or Google Play. You keep Plus features until the end of the billing period.
What devices does it run on?
iOS 15.5+ and Android 8+. One account works across both. An internet connection is needed for Emma, fresh content, transcripts, and pronunciation scoring.
